P2. PRECIPITATION & SOLUBILITY

 P2.2  Simple Solubility Problems

On the basis of the above generalizations, decide whether the following salts are likely to have appreciable solubility in water.  Use the state symbols (aq), (s) and (s+aq) respectively to indicate soluble, insoluble and sparingly soluble.

Providing the patterns of solubility for acids, bases and salts are known, then it is usually straightforward to predict whether or not a precipitate will form when solutions of these compounds are mixed.  Often it is also possible to predict correctly the identity of the precipitate.
